Job Description

Leads and guides accessioners in daily accessioning duties. Handles and/or acts as a resource for difficult or complex issues related to accessioning. Performs pre-analytical processing of specimens and a variety of clerical duties in support of department.

Job Responsibility

  • Leads and guides accessioners in the performance of routine duties.
  • Handles and/or acts as a resource for difficult or complex issues related to accessioning.
  • Prioritizes, schedules, assigns and monitors work to optimize operational service.
  • Performs pre-analytical processing of specimens and clerical duties.
  • Receives, sorts and performs accurate data entry for all specimens entering the laboratory.
  • Receives and processes written/electronic requests from physicians for routine, STAT and/or special laboratory tests.
  • Follows appropriate handling requirements for specific specimens.
  • Identifies and documents situations that may adversely impact test performance or reporting of results.
  • Rejects incorrect or inappropriate specimens.
  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.

Job Qualification

  • Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 4-6 years of technical experience, required.
